The Man Died is a record of 27 months of imprisonment of a Nigerian writer held as a political prisoner in 1967-1969 at a time of civil war and secession of the state of Biafra.

The Nobel Prize-winning African writer, Wole Soyinka, was imprisoned without trial by the federal authorities at the start of the Nigerian Civil War.
